Nooit gedacht dat ik ooit zou meelopen in een demonstratie. Demonstraties dat is toch iets voor linksers in de jaren 70 en 80. Tegen Lubbers, tegen de bom dat soort dingen. Ook de echte bruinhemden van dit land, kaalkopjes van de NVU, demonstreren zo nu en dan in een of ander dorp in het oosten van het land. Demonstraties ik vind het vaak zinloos tijdverdrijf, want zou het enig verschil maken? Iik heb er niet zo veel mee.
Nooit gedacht dat ik me ooit nog eens druk zou maken om homorechten en vrijheden in Amsterdam. Toen ik midden jaren 90 naar Amsterdam was het hier nog de “Gaycapitol of Europa”. RoXY en iT waren nog open, gaygames in de Amsterdam Arena. Later werd er getrouwd en dat het minder werd in de gayscene was vooral een teken van vooruitgang. Niet langer een eigen homozuil maar homos die hun ding gewoon deden in de gewone wereld. Potenrammen, dat was net als de demonstraties toch echt iets van vroeger en zeker niet van Amsterdam.
Maar de laatste tijd is het dus goed mis. Homo gerelateerd geweld neemt steeds meer toe; ook of juist in Amsterdam. Homofoob bedrag, of homo-afkeurend gedrag, dus zonder geweld, ook. En daartegen worden demonstraties gehouden.
Wat doe je dan. Ik ben meer van het individu dan van de groep; meer een gewone Amsterdammer dan een homoseksuele Amsterdammer. Toch heb ik meegelopen, afgelopen zondag. Met mij gelukkig nog vele 100-en. Het was in het begin even onwennig, ik was niet de enige zonder demonstratie-ervaring blijkbaar, maar na een half uur kwam de sfeer er redelijk in. Heeft het zin gehad, waarschijnlijk niet direct. Een paar mediageile politici zullen er nu wel wat meer aandacht voor hebben, maar dat zal het gemiddelde huftertje in West of Oost weinig deren.
Demonstreren, ik weet nog steeds niet wat ik er mee moet. En of ik het nog eens moet gaan doen. Het wordt al gauw een portie politiekcorrectlopenwezen en owow kijk mij eens voor de goede zaak mijn best doen. Tenminste dat is mijn gevoel, maar aan de andere kant, als niemand zijn bek opentrekt etc..kortom, wellicht tot de volgende keer. Of toch maar niet?
