Vorig week dinsdag was het zover; ik ontving, toch nog enigszins onverwachts de René van Veen Award. Deze prijs was me al toegekend in september 2009 ,maar fysiek het geval krijgen maakte het toch wel af.
René van Veen is een bijzondere D66-er; een a-typische D66-er. De meeste alhier in Amsterdam zijn geïmporteerde hogeropgeleiden. Voor studie of na studie naar Amsterdam gekomen, bewust gekozen voor een dynamische stad. René is geen import, maar een Jordanees; een Jordaneese kroegbaas, van ons P96. P96 is laatste jaren weer uitgegroeid tot onze huiskamer; het was een paar jaar in de vergetelheid geraakt maar sinds ik in 2006 het D-Café terug haalde naar P96, is het weer uitgegroeid tot de plek waar D66-ers in goede en slechte tijden bijeenkomen. Gek genoeg , ziet tegenwoordig ook GroenLinks dit als hun plek, ze moesten toch beter weten.
Dat René een atypische D66-er is, bleek en blijkt ook aan zijn inzet. Posters plakken, flyeren, in deelraad, en dat tientallen jaren lang. Zo zie je ze niet veel binnen D66. Vroeger was daar Jet de Busy en het was dan ook niet meer dan verdient dat René, als eerste, de naar haar vernoemde penning ontving. Later hingen we nog een plakkaat in zijn cafe; en nu is er een prijs een award naar hem vernoemd. Ik wil mijzelf nog lang niet in het rijtje Jet de Busy en René van Veen scharen, maar toch is de ambitie om over een jaartje of 40 ook een prijs voor mij vernoemd te krijgen.
