Vertrouwen in de eigen kracht van mensen; een van de weinige dogma’s die we kennen binnen D66. Gisteren had ik twee voorjaarborrels die in het teken stonden van eigen kracht. Als eerste stond ASRI op het programma; van kettingen naar kralen was het thema. De locatie was schitterend: binnentuin van de diaconie aan de Nieuwe Herengracht, in de lentezon was het daar goed toeven. ASRI, de jongerenorganisatie uit de Indische Buurt had een paar boeiende sprekers uitgenodigd, waaronder onze stadsdeelvoorzitter Fatima Elatik. Zij vertelde mooi hoe de lokale overheid vaak moeite heeft om los te maken; moeite heeft om vertrouwen te hebben dat het goed komt, of dat het niet erg is als het een keertje niet lukt. De komende jaren gaan we in Oost hier verder aan werken.
Bedacht me pas later dat de locatie behalve erg mooi, ook bijzonder is; waar ASRI werkt met en voor jongeren uit de Indische buurt, veelal met een moslimachtergrond, is de diaconie de historische evenknie waarvan uit de protestantse kerk in het verleden het welzijnswerk oppakte.
De tweede borrel was wederom in een mooie binnentuin, die van het Dylan hotel aan de Keizerskracht. Aanleiding was het verschijnen van de Quote 100% selfmade. De editie met daarin alle miljonairs onder de 40 die op eigen kracht hun kapitaal hebben vergaard. Als je hun verhalen leest, komt er een beeld duidelijk naar voren; werk hard en geloof in jezelf; kortom: vertrouwen in de eigen kracht.
Eigen kracht; niemand is er tegen, maar het gevaar dreigt dat het een lege term wordt; een buzzwoord zoals ook al met “duurzaam” het geval is. Om dat te voorkomen, daar ligt, denk ik, de grootste uitdaging.
