Met het huidige weer van wind en regen kun je het je nauwelijks voorstellen, maar vorig weekend waren er nog twee festivals in Oost. Omdat ik 2 weken daarvoor bij het Creatief Café Oost nog avond geleid over festivals in Oost, was ik nu toch nieuwsgierig geworden en dus op pad gegaan. Allereerst naar de foodnight in de Javastraat. Per ongeluk ontdekt, want de PR was nog niet optimaal. Maar wat was het leuk.
Weliswaar niet al te veel kraampjes en tentjes maar toch was het een en al feest in de Javastraat. De Volendammer visboer stond lekker te wokken naast een kraam van een Turks eethuis. Slager de Wit uit de Wakkerstraat verkocht lekker worstjes (waaronder echte zelfgemaakte Osseworst ), een kraampje verder had voormalig tvkok Jaymz Pool een geweldig chocoladetaart toetje. Kortom, een aaneenschakeling van kleuren en smaken van over de hele wereld. Amsterdam Oost op zijn best!
Op de weg naar huis fietsten we nog langs het Oosterpark waar het Rode Loper Festival nog aan de gang was. Dit paradepaardje van het stadsdeel ontvangt jaarlijks 10.000-en euros subsidie. De vormgeving en de PR waren stukken beter verzorgd dan bij Foodnight, maar wat er te beleven was, stukken minder. Ook het programma voor de zondag bood niets waarvoor ik nog de moeite nam te komen kijken.
Zo zie je maar weer: nieuwe initiatieven voegen vaak iets toe, zijn fris en verfrissend, jarenlange subsidiestromen monden uit in gezapigheid, veel vorm en weinig inhoud. Festivals zijn belangrijk, zeker in Amsterdam Oost, maar durf te vernieuwen en te verfrissen!
