Gisteren heb ik de film ‘An Inconvenient Thruth’ van Al Gore gezien. Soms erg confronterend om je te realiseren wat voor effecten de klimaatverandering over de hele wereld kan hebben. Ook in Nederland en, dichterbij huis, hier in Zuid-Holland. Het wordt niet alleen warmer, maar ook de waterspiegel zal stijgen. In de film was ook te zien dat een groot deel van Nederland, maar geheel Zuid-Holland, onder water zou komen te staan.
Na afloop ook een lezing van een woordvoerder klimaatverandering van het KNMI bijgewoond. Sommige punten uit de film nuanceerde hij wel, zoals de termijn waarop Nederland onder water zou kunnen komen te staan als de klimaatverandering doorzet. De getoonde gevolgen van de klimaatverandering waren echter zeker gebaseerd op wetenschappelijke waarnemingen. Zijn conclusie was: als we nu niet iets gaan ondernemen, dan zal de film van Al Gore grotendeels bewaarheid worden.
Ik vind dat de provincie Zuid-Holland een voortrekkersrol moet spelen in de discussie over de klimaatverandering. De provinciale bestuurslaag moet zich beter inzetten voor initiatieven op het gebied van bijvoorbeeld duurzame energie, maar dit is ook een belangrijk onderwerp waarvoor de provincie zich in Brussel zou moeten inzetten. Zuid-Holland loopt namelijk als een van de eersten het slachtoffer te worden van de klimaatverandering. Voor dit punt zal D66 zich in Zuid-Holland in de komende campagne en Statenperiode heel hard in gaan zetten!
