Afgelopen vrijdag is het Vadercentrum overvallen door vier vrouwelijke woordvoerders van de commissie Welzijn. Saskia, Catharina, Mitra en ikzelf wilden nu eens onverwacht binnenvallen om een goed beeld te krijgen van een gewone middag in het Vadercentrum Adam aan het Jonckbloetplein. Geen voorbereid programma en geen opgepoetst centrum, maar de alledaagse activiteiten meemaken.
Eerlijk gezegd is het me enorm meegevallen. Beter nog: ik kwam er opgewekt vandaan. Als je nog twijfelt aan integratie of aan emancipatie dan is zo’n bezoek aan het Vadercentrum een prima opkikker. Oude en nieuwe wijkbewoners, Hagenaars van origine, maar ook Surinaamse- Turkse- en Marokaanse Hagenaars: allemaal mannen die daar samen praten en samen werken. Niet eenzaam op een kametje blijven zitten, niet elke dag naar het koffiehuis of de moskee, maar met andere wijkbewoners iets aanpakken. Zo helpen ze zichzelf en elkaar.
Toen we binnenkwamen rook het heerlijk: er was net gekookt voor de groep die de bijeenkomst voor ‘s avonds voorbereidde: een discussie over homosexualiteit. De keuken is nu duidelijk te klein voor de groepen waarvoor gekookt wordt, maar de fondsen voor de nieuwe keuken zijn er al. In andere lokalen wordt geleerd hoe je kunt lassen, hout kunt bewerken (reparaties thuis) en je fiets kunt opknappen. Ook is er een naai- en verstellokaal, waar veel (aleenstaande) mannen gebruik van maken. Natuurlijk staan taallessen ook op het programma. zodat mannen die soms al jaren hier wonen (en gewerkt hebben) hun taalachterstand alsnog kunnen inhalen.
Alles wordt geleid door een gedreven Balil Sahin die dit aanpakt volgens een methodiek die aansluit bij de doelgroep en daar duidelijk succes mee heeft. Niet voor niets komt men uit het hele land kijken naar de aanpak van het Vadercentrum Adam.
Terecht dat zo’n druk bezocht centrum in de wijk niet wordt gesloten. Mijn steun hebben ze!
